We have 4 hens, all different ages and breeds. Our best layer is a Golden Comet who is about two years old. She lays a jumbo sized egg almost every day. About two weeks ago she started laying/dropping her eggs from the roost during the night or laying on the ground rather than in the nest boxes. This happened about 3 or 4 times the first week. This past week even the eggs she lays in the nest box are broken. The shells are very thin and soft. She appears to be healthy and is eating, etc.

The hens have access to oyster shell and they free range about an hour a day. The other hens are still laying on schedule.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. It very disappointing to lose this many eggs each week.

Thanks, Goshen

Is she on a layer feed. If not, I would give her that. If she is already on layer feed, you may want to restict her free ranging. She might be filling up on "junk food."
