thinking about putting them on the floor under where they are now. and putting up a roost in that spot
You can still have them on the "floor" but up a few inches (mine are elevated about 3" on little legs), if that makes it easier to keep soiled floor bedding from getting in there. I also have a bad back but stooping twice a day for eggs is manageable.I don't recommend putting nest boxes on the floor. You will regret this later.
I rearranged my nesting boxes to two large on the bottom and one small up top with the entrance turned towards the platform. seems to be working well. waiting for large crates to come so i can replace the cardboard boxes. thanks for the ideas!I've seen something that looks like a rain gutter attached to the nest boxes to collect the eggs. The nests are deliberately tilted toward it so the eggs will roll into it. Normally these are on the back, but for situation you could put it on the front, if it's possible to tilt the nests that way.
