Hen is Laying ‘Ghost Eggs’-Goes into nest box every day, no egg

I've got 3 - 6 year old chickens. My Americauna has not laid an egg in over 9 months. Yet, she spends some time in a nesting box. She was the most vocal about me closing off the half of the coop, with the favorite nesting box, for the 9 week old chicks to transition to being in the coop. She also had to squeeze into the 12"x`12" nesting box with my RIR chicken who is laying eggs while she was trying to lay an egg.

Maybe she is taking a break like others said. I used to have a hen that never laid an egg her whole life but she would still go in the nesting box in the morning and if I put my hand in the box she would screech at me.
