Hen is laying eggs on the floor instead of the nest box....

Yes, seems like two of our ladies are laying - one americauna (who does use the nest box) and one barred rock (the rebel who uses the floor). Just started last week!
 
I had that problem for the first few days. I think it was because my nest boxes weren't dark and private enough.

I added some black plastic draped over the top and down the front almost to floor level of the boxes. I also added a tarp over the run to block the direct sun from shining into the coops main door.

The next day she laid in the nest. When the second one started laying she did it in the nest first time. Still waiting for the last one to lay.
 
I just bought a ISA rock pullet, 16 weeks old yesterday and today when I came from work I found an egg in her nest. I didn't have any nesting boxes made, so I put a milk crate with some straw in it in the coop. What a great surprise!!!!!
