Hen is Limping After Slipping on Icy Coop

Poor thing. Such a great chicken keeper you are though. These things happen. I am so glad you shared. I have 2 orpingtons as well and one of the hens is quite large. I do worry about her landing on harder surfaces like the deck after pilaging my potted plants. I hope she heals up soon. What a great place this is. Kudos to those with great advice.

Thank you, so much! I really do try my best to keep them as happy as I can! My husband just shakes his head when I talk about getting more because he knows I’ll eventually show up with handfuls of fluff butts & he very rarely has to lift a finger to help! 😂 I have worried about Bonnie bc, like yours, she’s quite the girthie lady & I feared yesterday would come & although it did, she’s doing so much better today & she didn’t mind letting me put her to roost & get her off (partly bc she’s spoiled so! lol), so I’ll just continue that until she can do it on her own! I’ll be defrosting the outside coop flooring from now on, with certainty. Thank you again, so much & always come here with any questions, no matter how big or small because you’ll always get the answers you need & nobody ever makes me feel like it’s a dumb question! I love it here!

Huh?

I use some sand on the icy parts of run.
Don't use salt or any other ice melt product.

Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

@PippinTheChicken @Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive @aart @Ryguy3684 @azygous @MaryW2K @TheOddOneOut Just wanted to give y’all a little update! I’m sorry it’s taken so long, we’ve had a lot going on the past few weeks! But, Bonnie is doing FABULOUS! Here’s a video of her from last week, being her normal needy, spoiled rotten self! Lol I’m still trying to get a video of her “Squat Waddle Vibrate” because I know you all would love it! I’m also posting a video of my Roo, Thelma Lou, just for some bonus laughs bc he tried to square up with me & I know you’ll appreciate his oh so scary “bite”! Again, I can’t thank y’all enough for all of your help & suggestions! @aart, I just saw your comment about setting my location, so I’ll get that done as soon as these videos upload! Thank you all, again! 🖤🖤

One more thing, all the lumber & scraps in the Roo short is from us repurposing lots of scrap for our goat obstacle course & reinforcing our coop for winter! I swear, it’s not always there! 😂
