hen is loosing tail feathers

    hi, i'm pretty new to poultry keeping and i hatched some eggs around 20 weeks ago.

    i have just noticed that one of hens tails looks like the tail in the pic below, does anyone know why this is?

    any help would be much appreciated

    I think that she is getting picked on by the other chickens. Try watching your chickens, and see if any chicken is bullying the others. Isolate the bully for two weeks or so, and then put her back in. She will be the lowest chicken in the pecking order, and it will take her a while to rise in rank again.

    She could also just be growing in new feathers. Chickens go through three different sets of feathers before they reach maturity, so I would expect that she would be growing in her last set around now.
