Hen keeps one eye closed

I tried to gently brush it out without success. I am not sure about the nictitating membrane (I did not know what that was when you first mentioned it). Each morning I flush her eye with warm water, hoping to dislodge that layer. I don’t think it is pus but that is based on experience with infections in humans, not chicken eyes. LOL.
Just a quick note, not sure if you know or not, but chicken pus will be somewhat solid, like rubber or cheese. It is kind of shocking when removing a piece of chicken pus because it isn’t what you expect. It can be very tough to get out due to the consistency. That’s why we keep suggesting the warm compress to try to make it a bit softer and perhaps easier to get out.

Follow eggcessive’s advice about saline and keep trying to work the material out. Seems like you are making progress with it. Keep at it with the ointment, too.

It’s been a couple weeks following the treatment plan. I am not sure it is better or not. She keeps her eye open most of the time. She is acting pretty normal. I have attached a couple pictures, one with her eye open and the other with it shut. How does it look to you? I am concerned that she cannot see out of that eye. And I am concerned about the pouch her lower eyelid makes when she closes her eye. In

Somehow I got more pictures attached than I intended. The bottom two are the ones taken today.

Well it does look better. Were you able to ever get any pus out? Have you been putting ointment in it?

Does that bump feel hard or soft?
Are you able to pull that bottom lid down and see any pus?

She may be blind, that’s okay. Whatever happened might have rendered her blind from the beginning or the infection might have, it’s really tough to tell. A lot of chickens do get along fine being able to see out of only one eye. You might have to make some adjustments for her and be sure she isn’t being kept from food and water.

No, I did not get any pus out. I have been putting ointment in her eye twice a day. The white “lump” on her lower lid is soft; it is her lower lid.
Is it time to stop treatment and just let her be a chicken?
