My 4 year old EE hen laid this "egg" after I massaged her tummy in a warm bath. I suspected a problem when she was standing oddly and acting quiet and abnormal. She wouldnt go to bed even if it was getting dark. After she seemed to poop this out she willingly went into the coop to go up to roost. She didnt go to the top roost like she usually does but she isnt sitting on the floor either. Inside the "egg" was just egg whites and a meat spot. The egg itself was soft. Is she okay? One of my 6 yr old hens lays soft eggs often but none this TINY. I dont know if this can be called a fart egg since it doesnt have a hard shell. She also laid a normal egg this morning so this is strange to see. She never acts abnormal so Im very scared. Shes my favorite hen. She had me crying all night. Is she going to be okay?

Thats what I thought. But its so odd since shes 4 yrs old and laid an egg this morning, and the shell is soft.
How much calcium is in her diet? They lay soft eggs if they don't have enough calcium. Sometimes I get random soft eggs from my chickens even though there is nothing wrong with them. She should be ok. :)

I give them egg shells often but they dont seem to want to eat them, they dont like to like oyster shells either :/ She laid a normal egg this morning so it would be odd to have a calcium deficiency. Shes not stressed or molting either. It's so weird! But thank you, Ill give her some crushed Tums in eggs tomorrow, hopefully this was just some fluke.

It would actually make sence if she was 4 years old. Chickens, (because of the excessive breeding we've done to get them to lay more, and how taxing this is on there bodies) peak really early. They get old and egg production goes down around 2 years old, so after that "fairy" eggs aren't uncommon.
I wouldn't be concerned unless she continues to act oddly/abnormally.

I wouldn't feel the need to give the Tums unless she was egg bound, or had other egg issues. She likely won't need it as she seemed fine after passing this "fairy" egg.
If she starts to act like something is wrong, by all means give Tums immediately, but if she doesn't I wouldn't feel the need.
It won't hurt her to give it, but like I said, likely isn't necessary.

Thanks for the info! Ill be watching her like a hawk. I wish chickens didnt lay eggs or there was a better less expensive birth control method for them. Id give it to all my hens. I feel so bad they have to lay eggs everyday and often die from reproductive complications.
