I have a hen who is about 24 weeks. She just started laying and she laid 2 eggs on Saturday and both were soft shell. I thought it was from her just learning how to lay but today I found 2 more from her. One egg is usually intact but soft and the other is broke open. It was like that both times. All of my other chickens lay fine. I give them ACV every other day and they have free choice on oyster shell. Any ideas on why 2 eggs and why they are soft shelled? I am truly puzzled!

These things can be very common in a new layer, and hopefully she will start laying more normal eggs. I would take her aside if possible, and give her some calcium (crushed egg shells, a calcium tablet or Tums crumbled into a small amount of yogurt, and make sure that your oyster shell is placed in multiple spots for awhile. Stop the ACV in the water because in hot weather, it can reduce calcium absorption in chickens. Make sure they are on layer feed which contains 4% calcium versus 1% of other feeds.
