I have 9 red sex links one of them just started laying eggs this week but they are very small. the shell is hard it seems I have not cracked any of them to see if they have yolks or not. Will the eggs get bigger?? These birds were hatched the beginning of March.

Chicken's first eggs are often smaller when they start laying and then grow over time. They still taste great!

Yes when they first start laying the eggs are small. Mine got bigger within a month or two. Maybe sooner. My old girls lay huge eggs.

Congrats on your first eggs!! I was so excited when I goT my first egg.

Thanks for the input. I just started this whole chicken thing. I can tell you I love my chickens. I have a total of 35 with 2 confirmed as roosters. I really enjoy watching them. I love to hear my roosters crowing they just started a few weeks ago.

I have a few 9 week old mottled houdans and 1 of them just started crowing and it sure does sound funny. I just love that.

I started almost a year ago and I have 80 chickens, 4 ducks and 1 half blind turkey. It's addicting and I just spend hours outside with them all.

It really is an awesome hobby if you have the space and time to enjoy them!

Yes it is addicting! I also have 2 ducks. I was going to get a turkey or 2 but I was afraid that the coyotes would get them. I keep my chickens and ducks cooped up most of the time during the day when I am outside I let them kind of free range around the yard. They seem to like it. I can just sit for hours watching them.

It is very normal for the first eggs to be small they will slowly get bigger as she gets older...I would say by the time they are 8-9 months old they should be about normal size...here is my first egg I got form one of my red sex links
