When I checked on the hen in the morning, she was out and about her pen with the first two chicks that hatched the day before (Wednesday). The remaining egg appeared to be abandoned. The temperature of the egg was only slightly lukewarmish. I have another broody sitting on nothing so I marked the egg and slipped it under her. Do you think there's a slight chance it might hatch? I figured I'd give it until Sunday anyway.

It may be that the egg is no good. Momma's know what she is doing. Did she hatch any chicks?

You could candle it and see if it is any good.

I had a hen that layed on 8 eggs and when they all hatched but 2 she left the nest. I ended up cracking those two eggs and there was no developement at all. Don't know how she knew, but she did. They were duds! [IMG]

Finally got around to removing the egg today and it was a dud. Mama knew!
I also put the two remaining broodies in a cage this morning. However, am going to have to break them separately. Daisy is too territorial and won't leave the other broody alone. Took her out before there was blood drawn. Daisy wanted the cage to herself and that's exactly what she's got now:)
