Thanks for your speedy replies, I will check to see if I can feel the egg -but because I feel it so far up inside her, I have a feeling she's not close to passing it :/

You may want to massage her abdomen when she's in the warm water. It might help push the egg further down towards her vent. Hoping she makes it!!
 
Hey Guys,

So I soaked her in warm water, while massaging her abdomen. She managed to stand in the water, but that was about it. Eyes stayed closed, head resting on the edge of the tub.

I went ahead and felt in her vent to see if I could feel the egg. She pooped, and in was black and VERY gritty (like dirt). When I feel up there, I pretty sure I'm just feeling up inside her intestine. I can definitely feel the egg, but there is membrane, meat, however you would like to put it -separating my finger from the egg. A plus, she has actually started trying to push it out again. And perked up when I started reaching up there, opened eyes, fluttered wings a little (I guess I would too though.) Before the bath, I think she had pretty much given up. Now she's pushing. Not standing though when I put her in the box, eyes are still closed and legs curled up. Won't sit by herself upright, or stand.

Have towels in the dryer now to help keep her warm. I towel dried her best I could, as I didn't want to stress her out with the hair dryer (mine is ancient and very loud).

I'm going to do some research and see if I can feel my way into her oviduct vs. intestine.

Last night I soaked her, kept her warm, and tried to oil her vent -and give her a little oil. I felt up her vent and could feel the egg in there, but like I said, it was still in there (I couldn't touch the egg itself, but definitely feel it from her intestine). I think it had pinched her intestine off at bit actually, poor thing.

I tried to save her until late hours of the night, however I could see that she had given up. I understand why Chickens only tolerate egg bound for 48hrs -after that long they get too tired to try and pass it anymore. If I could have caught it in the early stages, when she was still trying to pass it, I think I could have helped her. I was too late though, I felt horrible for her suffering -and went ahead and put her to sleep. No sense in her suffering anymore than she had already. I feel absolutely horrible about the whole situation, and can definitely say I will be doing some extensive research on Chicken care to prevent (as best to my ability!) in the future.

Any tips on how to prevent these sorts of occurrences? If nothing off the top of your head, no worries -I will be researching it quite a bit this weekend.

I also want to thank @Eggcessive and @luvmigrls too for your suggestions and help! I just wish it could have ended better :(
 
I'm so sorry :( I was so rooting for her hoping she'd pull off a miracle! Anyway, try keeping oyster shells in a deprecate feeder where they can have acess to it, but don't mix it with their feed. All I can say is that now you have some signs to look for in the future. Still, so sorry for your loss.
 
Shannigan, Sorry it didn't turn out better. I just got on today and read up on the post. Sorry I didn't think of egg bound, I had one get it. I soaked her in my utility sink, holding her in one hand and using the other like a jacuzzi motion. She ended up laying a broken one the next day and pulled through. Sounds like you went the extra mile with her. It's sad but experience seems to be a good teacher.
 
Hello, We lost our pet hen today. Her symptoms were like you hen. Did you find out a cause?
