1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
She is a Rhode Island red, Seems healthy otherwise normal weight she is molting about done.

2) What is the behavior, exactly.
She was noticed limping. Later she was found huddled in a corner alert but not responding to the activity around her. We broght her in had a good look at the feet. ONe was a little puffier no Core that I could see. She has been separate a couple days but doesn't seem to be getting better in fact she is worsening not wanting to walk. She has a light green tint to the puffy foot like its under the scales. Edit to say not the entire foot just parts of the foot around the edges in spots. we did a epsom salt soak for about 30 minutes all she would tolerate. I have been putting hen healer and vetrycin on it. I was gonna try to drain it but can't really find a "pocket to drain. I tried a small incision but got only watery blood cleaned and put triple antibiotic on it. She seemed to be having difficulty straining to push somthing out. I thought maybe egg bound she hasn't laid any eggs since we brought her in. Using hemerhroid cream I inserted a finger about 1.5 inches in and felt nothing hard ot seeming blocked this was after the very watery poop mostly clear discharge with little patches and strings of white and a smallish pile of green grainy looking poop. When I have been holding her she eats well, pellets and dried meal worms. doesn't drink while I"m holder her but I'm unsure if she has been in the brooder

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?

about 4 days total 3 of them inside in the brooder.

4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?

no

5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
as noted above the swollen and firm foot pad couple brown surface spots but nothing like a core or a pocket to be drained.

6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.

I wonder if she could have gotten stepped on. They tend to like to be close and when walking I have had many close calls and a couple stepped on. But I always check and watch to be sure they aren't hurt so I really don't think so.

7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
unsure about drinking I marked it tonight so I can see in the morning. I put Pennchlor64 in her water tonight.

8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.

very watery poop mostly clear discharge with little patches and strings of white and a smallish pile of green grainy looking poop

9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?

Removed to brooder to rest and have food and water close. epsom salt soak tonight. two days prior it was cleaned and hen healer and vetrycin put on it. tried to see if it would drain tonight small incisionmade and triple antibiotic put on it she has been held alot tonight she likes to settle in. and or eat pellets and worms she has a good appetite seems to be eating fine.

10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Prefer to treat her myself. I don't have money for vet unless it is absolutely needed.

11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it.

It may help.Nothing but a puffy swollen foot pad really no pics tonight but could take some tommorrow easily enough hoping somthing recognizeable like a bubble foot will show so I can fix whats wrong.

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use

I have a 12x12 coopf and a very large enclosed run for my flock of about 50. since the snow finally left and we had some sunshine they have been free ranging the last couple weeks. In the coop pine shavings are used on the floor and in nest boxes.

Of note tonight after her epsom bath she was on my lap for 3 hours or so. she moved around using the foot and Perched on my bicep using both feet. If anything she seemed to enjoy having a warm body to "roost" on. She made some happy chuckles and "preened my beard" and was lovey dovey while holding her and petting her. She was loving the attention.

Sorry to hear that your hen is not feeling well.
You mention that she is finishing up molting, did she lay eggs through molt?
Photos of the foot, leg and poop are always welcome, those may help.

When she pooped, did the strings look like worms or was it urates?
When you checked for an egg, did you notice if she had any swelling/bloat or fluid in the abdomen?
Is her crop empty in the morning before she eats/drinks?

The difficulty straining is bit concerning. You mention that she's eating o.k. but you're not sure if she's drinking. I would give her a watery mash of feed to ensure that she's getting some fluids. Green poop can be an indication of dehydration/not eating, infection, worms, certain diseases and diet as well.

She did not seem bloated or excessively fluided But this is the first time I ever performed that kind of exam.

I cannot say if she was laying eggs during molt flock of 50ish come and go at will all using the same boxes.

The poop did not look stringy I did look for signs of worms other than color it looked like a normal poop with two or three tablespoons of watery discharge mixed with it well. the green stuff did not travel as far as the white and water parts. She was sitting on me at the time so I got a very good look at it.

it wasn't really hard straining but she was trying to expell somthing her rectum was slightly distended and would kinda open and close for several minutes 6 or 7 before she forcefully ejected the poo. shooting it about 16 inches or so. yeah on the chair on my wifes phone it was funny except for the seeming gallon of warm oily watery stuff runing down my chest and belly.

I will be closely monitoring crop, intake ect from now on but at first it was just limping hurt foot. so I wasn't watching it all.

Her crop wasn't overly full when I brought her in which is why I put worms in some pellets to see if she would eat. I will check intake and crop condition in the morning.

I"ll try to get pics and stuff tomorrow as well. just might be a while before posted as my wife has appointment with dr. tomorrow.

I will get pics in morning of her foot rectum and her. And poop if I can find it. the brooder has a plastic mesh floor to allow chick poop to fall into cleanout tray so it may be hard to get pic till I hold her and let her poop on me again :D (wasn't first time won't be last) If there are any sudden changes I will post them asap. to note while she is separate from flock the garage where the brooder is at is open and she has visitors coming and going all day and has two trays of chicks above her for company and a blind roo in a dog crate in there as well.

Ok Sorry for not getting back to you good folks who are trying to help. I got in later than expected and I never got pics taken was doing good to get them all checked on feed where needed water where needed etc. I did of course get lil red out let her soak good in epsom salts bath. and then plop down in my easy chair with her while she dried out and i rested. To note though. her crop was maderatley full when I got her out last night I gave her a bit more in pellets. , She gave a normal poop YAY! I checked for skin turgor it is fine dandy just as usual. and she is still sharp bright eyed. She still favors the foot though it does seem a tiny bit better. As we sat and rested dozed for 5 hours ( she was snuggling up on my shoulder she was so comfy I couldn't put her down) I could here normal sounding (to me) tummy sounds and noted that her crop did empty. (still no egg but she is one of our first girls so pushing 3 real hard so not worried about production as long as she is not bound and hurting. At this point I"m far less worried pretty sure its just foot issues I will get pics of the feets and stuff today or tinight for those that are loking to help me.

OK back to the worry I had her out a little while ago to let her move around get some sun and interact with other chickens. I am back to thinking she may be egg bound despite my inspection. I"m thinking I went the wrong way when feeling for the egg. so I will do another exam shortly. Can calcium gluconate be given by injection and how? I'm not really set up for tubing yet it is on the list to get but not yet got to the top of the budget list. What do you think get a vial of it and give a shot or do I need to try to get her to eat it. I will try to lube and coax it out but am thinking with thge amount of time already spent bound I don't want to wait too long. How long typically do you have to fix the problem?
