Hen making noises

My RIR hen is making little noises like she is talking all the time.is she becoming broody

How old is your RIR? My first broody was 8 months old, the others have been at least a year of age. Mine start getting grumpy before going broody. They go from muttering to growling, puffing up to rattling feathers, then there is the head down, tail flared, wings flared, hissing conniptions. The rooster wisely stays out of their way at this stage.

I have got 6 RIRs and are the least bit broody and more like child neglect. I've got one that makes noise when she is on the nest but only if you try to reach under her or another hen thinks about joining her in the box. The Barreds are extremely noisy but seldom brood. If you try to figure out a chicken behavior you will find yourself in a padded room. They are all like snowflakes, individualism is their forefront I have found.
