Hen mating with hen?

I am certain it is a dominance move. My female goats, on the other hand, are a different matter. I have one who rubs on her friend quite a bit, around her neck, bum, anywhere, and if she is in heat will briefly mount her. No dominance, just mutual affection...

My two female rats do this all of the time too! I think SandraMort is correct in saying that it is just pretty common in nature.

Well, I am just hoping my little rooster grows and can take over the flock. That is why I got him.

Airheart, I did have a rooster with these hens for 6 months (I think) when he suddenly died. It broke my heart. Anyway, the girls have all been mated by him.

It is strange that it is only this one hen with the other. The one who mates only does that with one hen and the one hen is the largest hen I have and I would have assumed the dominant one.

Well, what do we really know about how chickens "think", eh? LOL
