Help! Hen with what looks like a broken middle toe. Noticed the injury last night. Bone is sticking out and the foot is quite warm (indicating likely infection). I've been cleaning the wound with Hibiclens, followed by wound spray. She's panting a lot (I'm assuming from pain). She's still eating and drinking well. I have nutra drench in her water and vitamins and herbs in her oatmeal. Is there a good over the counter antibiotic? Anything I should door more that treating topically and wrapping the toe? Worthy of a vet call? Thank you!!

Yes, it's worthy of a vet call. A closed fracture can often be splinted and will heal well. Since you have a compound fracture (broken skin) then infection is much more of an issue and antibiotics are very likely needed. If you have a vet that will see her, that is always the best option. They can best advise on what antibiotic to use. You would most likely have to mail order one for this, most are not available over the counter, and for this, waiting for something to arrive would not be optimal. With proper splinting and antibiotics to take care of infection she has a very good chance of recovering completely.
