I just saw the weirdest thing, My speckled sussex (we think it's pullet-though it not laying age quite yet) mounted my silkie and really appeared to be doing it's thing (it didn't look like just mounting for dominance like you see in female dogs). Now, the silkie was in another pen until just today, so could it just be a dominance thing due to a "new" chicken? My speckled sussex is my newest and youngest chicken. I previously had to switch out a SS cockerel that was supposed to be a pullet for this "pullet" (from the same breeder). Could I have another mis-identified boy or just a weird girl? No crowing yet...it's about 20 weeks old.

Have to ask, but are you sure it's a hen? Post pics and we'll tell you.

I posted an "is this a boy or girl ?" post over in the right part of the forum. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=4209762#p4209762

I have only RIR hens- and every now and then I catch them doing this. It is kind of unsettling, but apparently normal...
