I have this year-old Olive Egger hen (Valerie) who is mounting my other hens like she's a rooster. How can I stop this without getting a rooster? It's getting to the point that some of my hens' backs are loosing feathers, which is one of the reasons why I don't want a rooster right now.

Facts about this hen:
  • She's gone broody twice.
  • She's a major beard plucker.
  • She's currently spending over half her day in the nesting boxes, even after she's laid her egg hours before.
  • She's my only hen who actually lays olive eggs and is a faithful layer, thus she's earned her keep that way.
  • She's not high in the pecking order.

I heard that can happen sometimes if you dont have a rooster, a hen will start acting like a rooster. It seems alright but if the other hens are getting stressed or losing too much feathers, you might need to separate her for a bit and them put her back.
Ok, thank you for the advice. I can try that come warmer weather.
