Hen near death then quick recovery, in same day?? UPDATE-threw up now

How's her coloring? I'm afraid to suggest anything at the moment because she seems to be doing okay. On the other hand, worms can make them succeptible to stress and weaken them for egg laying. I think I'd go ahead and worm. Be careful on the dose. For the Valbazen, I think it's 1/2 ml for a large sized bird.

Yesterday she was grey, no color.....after she got better yesterday she was suddenly pink again, and is pink today. Not 100% back to full color, though. It'll be tomorrow before I can worm...thank you for the dosage.

It was the oddest thing! After responding to your post yesterday, I come home to my Roo acting the same way! I really thought he was not going to make it through the night and now this morning he is a whole lot better! He was very lethargic, eyes closed, wouldn't eat or drink, no signs of any injuries or mites/lice. Crop was empty. He did sound "stuffy" like someone with a stuffy nose and sometimes the sound would have a wetter sound to it. I have no idea what it was but I am going to keep a close eye on him. I gave him water with vitamins/electrolytes and antibiotics as just in case.

That is odd! I'm glad he's some better this morning and I hope he comes through ok. Was his face swollen at all and does he sound clear now? I think chronic heat maybe makes them more prone to resp infections...or heat stress alone for those symptoms? when the heart stops functioning correctly. I hope your roo recovers fully.

My girl didn't have any respiratory involvment, and she's doing good today...good color, laying and egg right now.

I am glad your girl is doing better as well! My boy was back 100% by about 10:00 this morning. No issues at all. I really have no idea what it could have been but my only guess was heat. My blind girl apparently broke out of the pen where I keep her and the other silkies and when I got home he was standing with her. Maybe he was defending her from other boys or something in combination with the heat took a toll on him. He has no external injuries to indicate any fighting had happened.
I don't know if we ever will know for sure but I am so glad both are better!!!

Thanks, and whew -- glad he's all good now! Sure sounds like a tussle may have contributed. ...oh, the unending mysteries of chickens.
