Hey y'all! I have a 1.5 year old white leghorn that I raised from a chick at tractor supply. All six of them started laying about 4.5 months old and I received about 4-5 eggs a day from them even through winter. When spring came they went through what I assumed was a molt and they all stopped laying. When they started up again, one was not laying anymore. Occasionally we'd find a rubber egg in the nest box, but eventually those too stopped. All of my other hens are still laying really well. I haven't gotten anything from her in 6months.

She is allowed to free range and seems perfectly healthy and normal otherwise.

Why would she have stopped laying like that? Did the molt mess up her system. Is there anything I can do for her, and if there isn't, is she safe for eating?

Thanks!

She probably was not molting, year old hens go through a period where they just stop laying.also molting is when they lose wore down feathers, and get brand new.

They usually molt during fall/winter months. But if they went broody,or were stressed, threat can also cause them to molt in months they usually wouldn't.

I would put them on layer pellets or crumbles if they already aren't.Otherwise,I do not know why she wouldn't be laying.
