1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Americauna hen, 3 years old, thinner than normal, weight is 4lbs 3 oz
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Not eating/drinking. Just sitting around. 1 day she only went into the run at night and didn't go into the coop on the roost. Then the next day she didn't go into the run either. I found her sitting on the outside of the chicken coop. Her right eye is closed and her left eye is open, but she can't see me putting my hand or finger near it. It appears that she is blind. She doesn't have any wheezing, sneezing, runny nose, or coughing.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? 3-4 days
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? No
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
A closed right eye and appears to be blind on the left. No other signs
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. My neighbor gives bread to the chickens over the fence once a week. Sometimes it has small bits of mold on it. I wasn't home to check it this time before they ate it. (No I don't allow her to do that, but it's a longer story.)
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. I tube fed her twice electrolights until she passed stool, which was green and dried up. Then tube fed Exact Bird Food mix 3 times yesterday and 3 times today.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Very watery, clear water, green poop which is watery/smooshy, and white liquid.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
I tube fed her twice electrolytes until she passed stool, which was green and dried up. Then tube fed Exact Bird Food mix 3 times yesterday and 3 times today. Gave electrolytes and probiotics. I put the eye blue gel in her eye a few times, she did take her back foot and scratch her eye afterwards.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Treat myself
Is there a fungus or possible infection that can cause blindness?
I have a couple different antibiotics and Tiaguard.
I haven't wormed or gave them stuff for mites and lice. I was going to give everyone a couple drop or pour on Ivermectin this weekend.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
Attached a pic of her closed eye. It doesn't appear to have anything in it.
12) Describe the housing/bedding
in use. Right now she is in my laundry room in a dog crate on puppy pad.
