She was laying for at least 5 months out of her 9 month life she had. It was like corse sand and not in distinctive pieces. We have no sand or anything like tht in our yard. They would get the purina layer crumble and cracked corn then plain dried mealworms as a treat. I'd take a picture of the bags if I wasnt at work. The weather here has been cold but got really warm like spring in almost a day. All my other girls are fine and laying eggs like normal.

If I were you I would throw the corn in the trash immediately.

I would stop feeding all of those treats and only feed your birds the layer crumble.

I am guessing it is possible that she has been fed too many treats which has made her overweight which will cause laying problems and make them more susceptible to bacteria infections which I believe she had based on the color of the stuff that was coming out of her.

Just in a bag in the fridge. I told my husband $400 for the necropsy and examination of one of my other hens is worth it if it's something tht is contagious.

Iif I were you I would overnight the body to the state lab instead of having the vet perform a necropsy.

Final update! Vet found a baseball sized tumor that was not caused by any of my feed, treats, or any doings! Was not something tht was noticable or treatable until it was to late. Life happens animals get tumors nothing could've prevented it.

So glad that the vet found that the tumor was the cause of death. Was the location in the oviduct or abdomen? Did they have any idea what caused the strange gritty droppings? Sorry for all the questions, this was just an unusual case which helps us to learn.

Tumor found in abdomen and he said the grity stuff wasnt anywhere in her system other than right at her bum hole so no real explanation. Theres alot of maybes but she was loved and there was absolutely nothing we could've done sadly.
