Yea for new layers!
I have a pullet hatched in mid June that started laying the day before solstice. Still waiting for her hatch mate.......
Excellent! How many chicks did you have hatch in June? How many were hens vs. roos?

That hatch I had two bantam cochin hens co-brooding 6 eggs. All 6 hatched, but one vanished. 3 roosters and 2 pullets from the remaining, so not too bad. The not-laying pullet from that hatch has always been smaller and slower to develop than the laying bird, but her comb is getting redder now so I'm hopeful!
Thank you for sharing your updates in the chick pics, I just hatched out some of my own chicks recently and started to learn how to feather sex them, I also found that if there are no tail feathers visible 1-2 days after hatching ur most likely looking at a roo too, love your little black hen,
Thanks Oletymer,
What breeds did you hatch?,,,, any pictures you can share?
I'm looking to hatch out eggs this spring... I'm hoping I have a hen go broody, but if not I plan on placing eggs in the incubator early April.
