Hen or roo?

Okay it's older is it a hen or Roo?

Well tiffvitorino,
By my calculations your chick is 7 weeks old...and there's an awful lot of room still for error when trying to figure out the gender...but if I had to, without seeing it "in person"...I'd say hen/pullet. Someone guessed one of mine at that age "roo" and was wrong...all mine ended up being pullets the way they were supposed to be! I even though one of mine was a rooster at one point (even though it didn't "act" like one!). Mine now are 16 weeks...but really up until 14-15...you really can't be sure. Patience...so hard but unless you are a seasoned "farmer" it's SOOoooo hard to tell! Keep watching comb development, and saddle, neck, and tail feathers. Good luck...Vickery

p.s. also looks like "she's" got a "rose comb" and they can throw you off I think...I've got the same issue with my silver laced wyandotte...had a big fat red comb for a long time...but...she's a SHE!

I'm quite SURE.

Hey all, I'm new here so I hope I'm not taking this thread over. I have an Easter Egger, Charleston, that was born close to March 1st. "Day Old" from the hatchery. Anyways, we're new at raising chickens and was wondering if anyone could give us advice as to whether she is a hen or rooster? I have heard of the black chest, iridescent tail feathers, and pointed hackle and saddle feathers point to cockerel but still wasn't sure. Thanks for the responses!

Last photo...June 7? Anything more recent? I'm not familiar with EEs...some aspects look roo and some pullet....those saddle feathers are hanging down a ways but the comb isn't that developed...not sure...hopefully someone else can help. post another more recent photo. "She" should be 16 weeks by now (July 2nd) right? Good Luck...Vickery

Gosh...that's a big ol comb but sometimes they get those if they're going to lay early. My Buff Orpingtons (2) are a bit on the bossy/aggressive side now that they're a couple years old and their combs are quite red and large...I'm trying to see the saddle feathers...are they a bit pointy coming over the tail? You may have a rooster but it's just so confusing to us new chicken tenders! I'd give it a few more weeks and see how she/he changes! Good luck...hope it's a hen but those roos do crop up now and then in the hatchery chicks! Vickery.

p.s. check out my picture of "Marilyn" at Christmas (my avatar/member photo to the left)...she was approximately 9 months old...she's got a big ol comb and it's even bigger now.
