So this chickens name is hoppy because it just hops around. It looks like a rooster. I do have a black australorp rooster as well. It is in one of the pictures anyway I'm not sure if it is a boy or girl and there is definitely something not right. Its tail is sideways and it has some kind of bump on its back and the tail turns to the right. I do not see any spurs it is about 7 months old possibly a week or 2 older. I know it is not laying eggs either but I've seen it kind of crow a little bit it makes a very deep deep almost crow nothing like my other roosters. Also it has never tried to mate my hens and the other roosters do not bother it. They do not try and mate nor do they bicker like my other roosters. So i was wondering is this a hen or a rooster also what do you think is wrong with it? I have heard if there is something wrong with a hen they will try a crow and kinda turn male due to not being able to lay eggs. I do know my other black australorp hens are laying and my black australorp rooster has spurs and is mating and they are all the same age. Any ideas as to what may be wrong with it and what gender also is this true about hen who cannot lay eggs for some reason? Any input is great appreciated.
Thanks Missy

Maybe his wry tail is inhibiting typical mating behaviors, or affecting his confidence. He also may be subordinate to other roo/s in the flock. As for the absence of spurs, they will probably come in later. I actually have a hen with a large spur on one leg and acts like a roo. She’s not that old. She is one of those ambiguous gender hens, but she lays eggs still. Weirdness!
