Hen or rooster and if hen something not right??

If it is wry tail does this hurt him? I don't see him hurting or acting like it hurts but like I said he literally hops everywhere he doesn't walk. Any input on this?

I’ve read that people sometimes treat wry neck with supplements, maybe it would help with his tail. Or maybe you could fashion some sort of brace for it to help straighten it gently over time.

Thank you this is a big help I actually treated a chick that was 2 days old up to 2 weeks with supplements with vitamin e and selenium and an electrolyte mix and it worked. The improvement was huge. I wasn't sure about a 7 month old but I could definitely try. I'm just going to have to find out what treats wry tail. I didn't even know this was a thing. Same thing with wry neck I researched and found out that it was wry neck by looking up turned neck on a chick. So I really appreciate your input thank you.

His whole balance is off because of his tail. Whatever you do don’t breed him. It really is a shame but most hatcheries breed for numbers. It’s far too costly for them to only breed the extremely healthy and close to perfect specimens.
It’s a genetic defect.

I doubt it’s wry tail. It looks like a genetic defect to me. Notice how the cockerel with the crooked tail is more round and how his legs are spaced far apart while the other cockerel is more oval when seen from above.

There is no treatment for Wry Tail. It is a genetic defect. The hopping could also be a genetic/developmental disorder or some type of leg bone deformity.
If you do not want to cull him, then watch to see that he is eating/drinking well and not getting picked on. He should not be used for breeding. https://www.mypetchicken.com/backyard-chickens/chicken-help/What-is-wry-tail-H305.aspx

fwiw - Wry Neck is a neurological symptom that is caused by a few things like vitamin deficiency, genetics/poor parent stock nutrition, head trauma and disease like Marek's and Avian Lymphoid Leukosis. Vitamin therapy can help a bird that has symptoms of Wry Neck, depending on the cause - not every case of Wry Neck can be corrected and some birds die from an underlying disease or condition.

I understand how chickens are like pets to a lot of people here. Genetic problems and even vitamin deficiency issues shouldn’t be bred. If these birds are bred your only further weakening the genes.
Yes these birds are not being bred. And the wry neck chick is from a completely different bird who hatched 3 chicks. She is completely healthy and always was so knowing her first 3 chicks had issues she will not be able to hatch again.

How long has he been twisted and limping? Wry tail can be a symptom of Marek's disease, as well as limping. If he has not always been this way from hatch, which you would expect from a genetic deformity, then I would suspect Marek's.

Also, having too many males in a flock will cause stress and if you have Marek's infected birds, then stress will trigger an outbreak. How many pullets/hens and how many cockerels/roosters do you have?
