Hen or Rooster

I got a hold of the farm I got all the chicks from and swapped him out for an EE pullet no issues at all. She has the funny Americauna mustache. As soon as I seen that it made me laugh and had to get her lol.

Just throwing out there.....your chicks are quite old enough to be off that heat lamp. They're well able to handle temps down below freezing at this age.

Well that's good to know. I wasn't sure when I could take them off the lamps. The low has been in the mid 40's so I've put it on each night then have to wake up early and unplug them cause the coop gets morning sun and will make it close to 100* not long after the sun comes up. This was really starting to suck especially since I don't go to bed until 1 am due to my work schedule.

Thanks for the heads up.

She's real pretty, tan with blue under tones. The other 4 haven't really accepted her yet and keep pecking at her when she comes near. How long will it take for them to accept her? She is 2 weeks older than 2 and 4 older than the original girls.

She's a VERY pretty pullet! It can take a few days to get the pecking order figured out with the new addition. But they will learn to love each other :) that's all normal. If I add a new hen to my flock she gets picked on for a few days and then everyone is happy after that. At the most maybe a week or two until they all accept her.

That's good. This morning I let them out of the roosting box, the new pullet was the last out. All the original girls were around the feeder eating and she walked in-between them and started eating as well, none of them messed with her, so I'm hoping they are fine with her already.

Glad to hear it!..any time I get a new bird i try to put her in the co-op at night time and just set her on the roost by everyone else. They are usually too tired to peck at one another at this time.then when they all wake up in the morning they think "huh, that new girl must have been here the whole time and I didn't even notice"... They still will have to get the pecking order worked out. But it seems to go smoother this way...in my experience anyway. Hope that helps for any future new birds u get
