Hen passed blood clot & weird egg membrane

The pills are 1000mg calcium and too big for her to swallow. I tried to disolve half of one in water but it sunk to the bottom. Now trying to crush up the other half and give it to her piece by piece.
Spoke to the veterinary hospital on the phone. The avian specialists won't be in until Monday, but I was assured that if she continued to act normal and the blood isn't in her stool, it can wait.

She is beginning to make broody noises. I hope that means this was the last egg for a while.

I'd continue to give her Calcium for several days.

Since all the blood is within the soft shell, I agree, it's coming from the Oviduct. May have been a ruptured blood vessel.

Is it possible it's leftover blood from the first time? Or does she keep rupturing blood vessels? Since this is the second time the blood came out with the soft-shelled egg. And after an initial regular egg (did that rupture something?).

I'm just trying to figure out how likely it is that this is cancer or another similarly severe condition vs damage caused by trouble with contractions or the like, I guess. The timing both times - right after an earlier egg - do make me wonder if it's the latter.

Won't have any real answers until Monday at the earliest. They don't want to give me antibiotics until an expert has seen her.

Her cycle may be off a little, could be cancer, infection or ...

So many things can go on with laying hens. Hopefully you will get more information on Monday which isn't too far away.

I understand it's upsetting, but I'd wait and see what the Vet says.

At least for now she's walking around, eating things, grooming herself, just scarfed down several pieces of her own eggshell...

I should probably try to channel her own lack of caring for the next few days. Just have too many experiences of one small thing escalating into hen death.

One final picture of the bloody part of the egg. Looks (and feels) like meat spots in there - or really fleshy clots.

She has now eaten some of my okonomiyaki (I lost my appetite) and is extremely annoyed with me moving her around all the time.

EDIT: also found some feathers. She may be going into a mini-molt.
