It's Sunday morning here already. What about where you are?

At least for now she's walking around, eating things, grooming herself, just scarfed down several pieces of her own eggshell...

I should probably try to channel her own lack of caring for the next few days. Just have too many experiences of one small thing escalating into hen death.

She does not get along with the flock and never has despite many interventions, so I moved her in with me to be a pet two years ago, after she started aggressively bullying even her sister from the sleeping area. She can hear my roosters from here. That (and keep-inside orders for avian flu) is why daylight is currently an open question.

She is now broody. Hopefully that means yesterday's was the last egg from her for a while. Give her system some time to rest.

(Though is it great for my nerves right now that she mainly wants to sit around on her eggs and doesn't eat and drink as much? No. But I'm sure I'll feel better as the 'broody screech' finally fully manifests.)

So far, she does not look poorly or miserable to me, and she's the weight she should be at without further eggs in her system. Photograph just taken.

She's so cute!

Hopefully she is going broody, most hens will stop laying eggs during their broody cycle. Usually they reduce food intake as well.

I would however encourage her to get up at least once daily, move about, eat/drink and hold your breath waiting for that huge stinky broody poop

Let us know how the vet visit goes.

She's definitely broody now - complete with screeches and talking to her eggs. It's pretty cute.

I am definitely making her get up and drink and eat. She did strain without actual poop the first time, but five seconds later the poop came out in one stinky go, so I'm trying not to fuss over it.

They do! It's my favorite thing about broodies. The babies can hear them through the shell so they spend a lot of time making cooing noises at their eggs.

It is definitely hard to remind myself I don't need the fuss of more roosters when the hens are being so sweet to their eggs which is probably why I wound up with two.
