Hen passed some flesh from her vent??!!

We have a dom that is about 7 months old. She has vision problems ( genetic). She hasn't laid an egg for about 3 weeks now, no sings of being egg bound. Today I go out and she has a bloody fleshy thing hanging from her vent. I went to touch it and it came out! Her vent looks fine, not red or swollen. Can they pass part of their organs? Part of it it long and part of it is the shape of a large kidney bean? I took pics, but I can't find the cord to put the pics on the computer.

Anyone know any thing about this. I looked up prolapsed vent and her vent is fine not like the pics I saw.

Hi vjbakke,

has she been a soft shelled egg layer before going off lay? Sometimes you might get a mixture of soft shell and mucus come out if an egg has broken inside. That can lead to egg yolk peritonitis so it isn't a good thing, but if it doesn't happen again there's a chance that she won't have further problems.

But if it was all tissue of some sort, it's quite possible she's had an infection and is now passing part of her reproductive organs. That would mean she might not be able to lay in future, and could still have other internal issues (infection and/or tumour). I'm not saying these things are likely; they're just possibilities.

At this stage if it was my bird I'd simply be watching her for signs of pain, then taking it from there. Internal pain often makes them stand with their head tucked close to the body and their tail down. If she seems well and continues eating and scratching etc then she's probably okay. She might even lay again; it all depends on what material was passed.

Obviously I'm not an expert and don't know the whole story, these are just some quick thoughts.

thanks, after closer look and cutting into what she passed it looks more like a very large blood clot and not tissue. She's eating fine and not showing signs of pain like you listed.
