Hen pecked day old chick- foot injury

Hi there,
This is my first hatch from a broody hen. I thought I separated the hens from mom and babies well enough, but baby got through dog cage and got pecked through chicken wire. It's foot is injured and toe is purple and swollen. I'm not sure 1) if it will survive 2) if I should intervene? The hen seems to be taking care of it. Thanks for any advice. I feel bad for the poor thing!

Why are hens so vicious?!

I leave them all together and let the mams protect the chicks. I've certainly read of times this causes problems but it's always worked here.

hi i have had the same problem where another hen has attacked another hens chickbut much worse than the foot it had been pecked down to the bone on eitheer side of its head and it was only a few houres old. hens r horrid. chick is still alive but feel terrible. hope your little ones foot gets better i put antiseptic cream on mine it might sooth your chicks foot xx
