Hen puffed out and unable to walk- PLEASE HELP!!

Has she been treated for worms using Safeguard, and treated for mites. She could have internal lay, tumors. Anything is possible whereas she is an older hen.

well I guess I spoke too soon! After I posted a few minutes ago, I got her to stand up. Last night, when I first found her, whenever I would try to get her to stand up, she would fall over in a crumpled heap. Now she is standing on her own, as well as waddling around a little bit. She still seems very lethargic. I think the reason that she was not standing last night is because she was dehydrated. It has been very cold here lately, & I think it is a possibility that it was too cold outside for her to go out to get a drink.now that I see her standing, I am noticing more possible symptoms of her being egg bound. her crop is fine, other than the fact that it is almost empty because she won't eat very much. However, I did get her to eat a little bit of scrambled eggs and yogurt as well as some water with apple cider vinegar. Right now I'm about to give her some more scrambled eggs. I took a video of her actions and I am going to upload it soon. Thank you so much for your reply!

Shes a sick girl. Can you try to tube feed. At least tube water. Its not hard to do. Here a good link. The supplies can be boughten at the vets office.

Have you tried to check again for egg bound. I feel its probably Egg Peritonitis.

I've been tube watering her, but I will try tube feeding.
Unfortunately, the description of egg peritonitis sounds correct. How do I "check" for egg bound? What can I do for her?

When you referred to tube water, did you put a tube down her throat.

Lubricate your finger and stick it in her vent to feel around. Also see if you feel any lumps inside as well.


Unfortunately there isn't anything you can do for her. Only option is to spay her or take her to the vet to get an injection i believe every 6 months to stop her from producing eggs.

Oh no, I meant I was giving her water through a dropper.
When I feel her stomach, I can feel a bulge on the left side of her lower abdomen but I'm not sure if it's an egg or not. I think I will try to give her another warm bath. I tried sticking my finger in there but I didn't feel anything. Is there nothing to do to get the egg to come out if it's egg peritonitis?

When you did the internal exam, could you feel any lumps. You should be able to feel for an egg if shes egg bound as well with the internal exam. You can give her a calcium pill or tums to help pass an egg if she is egg bound. Read those links I posted. Another name is internal lay.
