The worming as of last Tuesday, seemed somewhat effective and that was her 10th day - time for 2nd dose. So on the 17th, she got more Valbezen. Her poop looked better although still too watery, and her crop felt better, but why was the head shaking continuing? I decided (after seeing some posts) to go have another look down her throat. This time I took the mag lens with me cuz I got old eyes. After a short struggle, I managed to see "IT", there was yellow crud inside her mouth on the lining of her throat. That was Thursday. Took a little time to find who carried the FishZole it's not at pet stores or fish stores. Where does canker come from? Pigeons. People all over the U.S. breed pigeons and there are stores to support that hobby. I happened to find one a short distance from where I live and they had what I needed. Some people question the 250mg dosage on this list. I asked at the store what dosage, he said they give their pigeons the 250 and pigeons are quite a bit smaller than a chicken. So Jet gets one pill a day. They said to give her pal - since she has no symptoms - 1/2 pill a day. I can do that!
First time wasn't too bad - buried it in a chunk of bread, moistened the bread, they both ate their dose. Next day not as good. I was following them around trying to get them to eat it. Lesson learned. Today, I withheld all food until they ate it, Jet gobbled it up but Bandit- the one with no symptoms - wouldn't cooperate even after several tries. So back in the house with her dose, a teensy bit of olive oil and red wine, and she sucked it up
As far as how Jet looks, a world of difference now. Chances are she also had worms, but this is the 3rd day of new treatment and no huddling, she stayed out late last night, more energy, eating everything in sight, and no head shaking (or at least I can tell it is disappearing quickly now). Other symptoms: drooling, excessive drinking, eating lots of pine shavings, no more. Never heard of canker before, but the place where I got her was full of wild birds and pigeons, and they say 80% of pigeons carry this. I wanted to update in case this might help someone else.
