I have a New Hampshire Red who is only one year old. She stopped laying eggs about Oct, 2010. To date, she has not laid another egg.

There does not appear to be anything physically wrong with her, she eats alright and acts like a normal chicken. It is near the 6 months point of no egg production, is there away I can get her to start laying again?

Prior to October, she has been a very constant layer.

I thought hens were good for at least two seasons.

Thanks!

Sometimes they don't lay much, or at all, over the winter. Mine have just started back laying last week. Do you supplement the light at all? They need approx 15 hrs of light to lay.

Some of my girls did the same, they just recently started back up. They didn't "appear" to be molting, but I think they were having a very light molt.

Just taking her winter's rest I bet. Check her for mites/lice etc. and be sure she's still healthy just to be sure. And if that checks out, then just be patient, she'll start again soon.
