Our 7 month old isa brown was wheezing and sneezing this morning when I let them out of the coop. The others had pecked her on top of the head. I did some research and went to town for some medicine. I was able to find VetRX. I made a solution and gave her a dropper full by mouth and also put a little under her wings and near her beak. I was told to get antibiotics but couldn't find the right ones at Tractor Supply or the local feed store. The two vets I called can't get her in until Friday. She is breathing with a hard wheeze now with her beak slightly open. She shakes her head/sneezes occasionally. She is getting weak. I have her isolated in a soft dog crate. She was eating this morning, but is very lethargic now and just standing there breathing hard. Her poop is watery, from what I've seen recently. This is the only medication I have available (or could purchase in town): CORID, Liquamycin, terramycin ointment, Poultry Dewormer (fenbendazole), VetRX.

Is there anything else I can do besides put her out of her misery? How do I protect our other 5 birds. Also, what do I need to do to protect myself? I am currently sick from chemotherapy treatments so my immune system is compromised. I'm nervous about having her in a crate in the house, but I don't want her to suffer.

I have videos, but I can't seem to load them. Thanks!

Aw, I'm sorry for all you're going through. I won't be much help, but will at least bump your post up to the top so hopefully someone can help.

I had a respiratory infection go though my flock but was able to get 1 to a vet quickly. He prescribed Tylosin which I later found online at Jedds. I just looked & they appear to be sold out. I'd probably call the vet back again & bug them a bit, see if they can get her in sooner. & in the mean time keep her warm & maybe cook her some eggs.

Good luck. :hugs

I’m having the same issue with one of our girls.
Yesterday fine, this morning struggling to breathe, watery poop. We put her in a crate w/ the heat lamp attempting to administer the Vet RX. Just looking for any advice

How is she doing now?
How much ventilation is in your coop?

Any mucous coming from her nostrils?
Was her crop empty this morning before she had anything to eat/drink?

She didn't aspirate any fluids when you gave her the VetRx did she?

If you have room and your coop or run is secure, place her cage outside. Cover it at night with a blanket if your weather is cool.

I'm sorry that she's not well and that you are struggling too. Let us know how you both are.
