Hen suddenly extremely aggressive.

That was my first thought because I have a girl who is a vicious biter when broody or when I mess with the nest while she's laying.

Is she only attacking your or is she being aggressive to the other chickens as well?
She’s only attacking me at the moment. She’s completely fine with her flock mates and other members of my family.

Ok this may sound strange and may be totally wrong, also isn't meant to worry you. But are YOU having any health issues? Sometimes animals can sense things like this. Like dogs who can alert their owner right before seizures happen. Maybe she senses something wrong and is trying to protect her flock. Or have you started using a new perfume, deodorant, etc?

I am dealing with this EXACT situation right now. My sweetest hen suddenly is aggressive towards me whenever I go in the run. She is 6 months old along with her flock mates. She attacks even when I'm bringing food. I found a duck egg today and when I took it she flipped out. I'm guessing she is broody?? What can I do to calm her down? I don't see her laying on eggs ever and the hens literally just started laying. Not everyday laying. Like three a week laying. How can I handle her and the rooster?

You have at least 2 roosters.

Hennifer, my top hen has suddenly starting being very aggressive towards me for no apparent reason, but she is fine with everyone else. In the past couple of weeks she has started attacking my hands and arms and has been grabbing onto my trousers and kicking me with all of her feathers puffed. She has managed to draw blood a few times. I’m so confused as to why she has started with this behaviour. There has been no changes in her flock, no predator attacks, no new hens or anything. She was always the sweetest girl and would love to sit on my knee and have a nap. She was very affectionate and kind towards me but it’s like a switch flipped one day and now she’s set on attacking me whenever she gets the chance. I know it probably sounds stupid but I find it a bit upsetting. She used to be such a sweet girl and I loved when she would sit on my knee, it always calmed my anxiety and help relax my mind, and now I get scared to be around her.
If anyone has any advice or insight into what could be wrong, I’d greatly appreciate it.
have you gotten any response yet as to why your chicken has started this behavior. i have been experiencing the exact same thing with my girl..

Welcome to BYC! Looks like this is your first post. Go ahead and start your own thread - the cause of your own issues could be any number of things. That will allow members to talk with you as a group and everyone to get the relevant information so we can help you out.

Looks like Anastatia_S's issue was probably that she had a rooster instead of a hen - as they mature they can have hormonal changes that cause them to be aggressive to humans. She may or may not still be watching this thread, so hopefully she shows back up to answer you, but if you need immediate help, making your own post is a good way to get help from everyone pretty much immediately.

When you make your post, describe your setup, bird breeds and age, and post pictures of your flock, the problem bird, and your coop and run. This will help us to help you figure things out. Keep all your info in your original post - don't reply to your own post, edit your original post instead if you have to add info and no has answered yet. That way, folks will see you haven't had any answers, and will read your thread to see if they can help.
