I have a chicken that went broody and insisted on laying on a Muscovy while on her nest and the Muscovy gave up. The chicken has claimed the nest as her own and is incubating them... I have no idea how this is going to work. Anyone have a chicken take over like that and had it turn out alright for the ducklings?

I have used chicken hens many times to hatch duck eggs. Most will set the extra time needed to hatch them. The only possible problem I see in the situation you describe is if there are also chicken eggs in the nest. If so when the chicks hatch the hen will leave the nest within 24-36 hours after the first chick hatches.

my ducks once took back the nest after this happened and a chicken hatched out a week or so before the ducklings but this caused no problems. the chick just hung out around and under the duck untill the ducklings hatched, we just put food ot so i would not have to wander very far to eat and drink. In other words if it is a good hen it will all be fine.

Thanks! I figured it should be alright and thought about if a chick hatches before. She will not let us check if any c hockey eggs are in there so we figured we would just have the incubator ready in case she gets up with a chick or 2 eary
