Hen with eye infection, bubbling in eye, can't open it, help?

I have one hen whose eye is completely shut and a couple of others whose eyes are looking a little "droopy". I noticed the neck feathers on these birds seem like there has been some discharge. Can eye infections spread through the flock? If so, what should I do?

yes it can spread
You must isolate and start on antibiotics
i have just got 3 cleared of this ,i also washed there eyes with warm salt water twice a day
good luck

you get different antibiotics to me .
i live in Bulgaria but if thats a general one as we use ,yes it goes in the water

I can't find Vet Rx anywhere around here and her eye is getting worse. Someone mentioned using Saline solution and Neosporin. Any thoughts about that?

Thanks for your feedback!

I washed mine with saline and used neosporine ointment.
I didn't use vet RX. I don't know what it is and nobody has it around here. I did put some durvet vitamin and electrolyte powder in her water.

I hope this helps. My girl finally did heal up but it was a long road it seemed.
I almost culled her, glad I didn't.

Good luck

I get my meds (including the ones you all have been talking about) from Firststatevetsupply.com They have everything I need, prices are reasonable (usually the lowest I can find online) and they will give you help on diagnosing what's wrong too. Very nice, knowledgable folks who have helped me a lot.

Update: I found some Terramycin at Southern States. I rinsed her eye out with saline solution and have been applying the Terramycin since Monday. I will keep her quarantined until Friday morning, but I have to add her back into the flock then because I have to go on a weekend trip and my son will be feeding the chickens. (He's not up to being a Chicken nurse yet:)). Does anyone know how long it takes for the Terramycin to work? I can't tell if it is working yet. Thanks for all your feedback!
