Hen with gender crisis

Was the male housed in a cage near the hens (or cage sectioned off)? They usually need to see/hear the male for a few weeks to get acclimated to new birds. If a newcomer is added to their cage without them getting to know him first they will attack as quail are territorial.

Thank you for your advice! I have made the decision not to add a new rooster to the flock and send them all to the freezer. Granny has taken on that role. I guess it is hormonal and I have no idea how to stop her from acting like a rooster. Besides, I now have two visually impaired quail and they are terrified of roosters. It went as far as my most docile partially blind hen attacking another hen because she has the same color as a little black rooster I wanted to keep.

I finally caught Granny on camera, actively feeding the other hens and making noises. I have only until now heard a rooster making these sounds. Sorry it is so short, but they all come running when she is calling.

Just as my Charlie... adorable, your Granny. If she keeps the flock calm and together, don't change it.

It's a pitty, as you can't breed with them, but I had so much bloodshed by changing flocks (regardless of slowly introduce, vinegar method or just placing in ... always unpredictable).
