Hen with hard frozen poop on & inside vent!

The thing with Chickens is they look good till they begin failing..Not eating is not a good sign..Best wishes.

I have a girl that always has poop on her backside. If u can use a warm washcloth and hold it there a bit and squeeze the mass, hopefully without pain. That has worked best for me. She has never prolapsed so i dont know the best course of action there. I use dawn and warm water in a bowl. Maybe u can get her to sit for a bath, I've never tried with my girl. Just warm compress and squeezing is what i would try. Best of luck with your girl.

Yeah i dont i wish i could get a better picture. She would eat if i gave her food ita just im not going to give her food so she gets all backed up from not being Able to poop as she should. There is an oopening where some poop is pushing out but not good enough to pass a lot. Im just going to keep soaking the vent an see how it goes tomorrow. If no improvement shell have to be cull. Thank you all.

This is going to sound weird but it might help,next time you soak her put a couple denture cleaning tablets in the water you maybe can bubble away some poop.

Shes still doing good. passed some poop threw the vent. Its still all crusty and scab like in it. Thanks for the tips ill see what happens.

It seems like you may have a prolapse that froze, as Oldhenlikesdogs posted. Prolapsed vents can become damaged and have necrotic or dead skin. You probably need to get the Epsom salts, and give her a warm soak every day, and try to scrub off any dead or black tissue until it bleeds slightly, which would mean that the healthy skin is uncovered. Keep her inside and warm. If a prolapse becomes necrotic, the hen may need to be put down.

Ill have to get that salt tomorrow. All around the vent lips are cleaned off now and show healthly colored skin and did bleed slightly. The inside is the concern now since its all crusty. Im keeping her inside for now qn until she can recover hopuntil. If not i did hatch two of her chicks and im just thankful thay its only one hen not any others having this issue. But say she recovers how would she be laying again or even mating... I feel the vent will be much different than it was before.

Update
So shes been doing good. Keeping her inside built a nice big boxed shape coop for her in my basement since shell be inside. She is pooping fine still has a big crusty poop scab on the veny. But what do you guys think. I just gave her a bath a little bit ago heres what the vent looks like. Oh and qre her toes normal? Her chicks have the same feet and so does her sister but this one looked bigger than normal. But shes walking fine.
