Hen with hard frozen poop on & inside vent!

Sorry. You are doing more than I would have. I have in the past nursed sick chickens but it always ended badly no matter what. We generally will cull if we see no improvement after a week or two, if they appear to be suffering, it's apparent that it won't survive, or it's quality of life will be greatly diminished.

Either she's going to improve or she won't, it just depends how much time and effort you want to invest trying. Still hoping it works out though.

I think she would recover from this if her butt got cleaned every couple hours. Which i really can't do. I mean after Today im going to try my best to keep it clean enough so she can poop more easily and give her a couple more days but if no signs of improvement than she'll be culled. Another worry i have is even if she improves and fully recovers an the vent is all cleared up will she even be able to lay again? Or what if she gets mated by one of my rooster what would happen to the vent?

Final update
Alice is still alive yesterday she was suppose to be culled but things came up. An good thing! Today i gave her a bath soaked her vent longer with witch hazel and baby soap. (Witch hazel with alcohol 14% from thw dollar tree does NOT sting on chicken or human.) lifted up a piece of that scab thats been blocking most of her vent and got it off with very little bleeding! After that i cleaned it again with the witch hazel and put petroleum jelly on it. Thank you everyone foe your advice it helped a lot!

Does that mean she is able to poop better today?

Yes! :) nothing is obstructing the vent anymore. she only had about the size of a pinky nail hole in her vent to poop out of. An everytime she went it poop it would become more an more difficult. Now ill just have to make sure the next couple days there is no infection since it slightly ripped the skin. But she should be able to recover and heal up good until spring inside.

Do you have vetricyn? I have only heard good things about it. We finally bought some when my dog gouged herself on the fence of the chicken run. Her wound is healing fabulously with no redness around the staples. I really think the vetricyn has helped tremendously.

Thank you me too. I have only had her a couple months so i was really hoping she'd pull through. This is my first time with chickens so its been quite the journey so far. I hope your dog gets better as well.
