Hen with hard membrane sticking out of vent?

Good job on getting that out.

Was there yolk and albumen (egg whites) coming out separately from the wrapped up membrane?
Since it was really mucky and you had to introduce oil. If she were mine, I would give her a round of antibiotics to help with any infection.

Amoxicillin would be good to use, you can order it online. If you have any antibiotics on hand, let us know what you have.

There were no separate albumen or yolks coming out other than what was wrapped around the egg that came out before the membrane that I witnessed or saw evidence of. She is doing very well, completely back to herself. The antibiotics have on hand is neochlor. Broad spectrum. There is no indication of infection though.

Oh, that's very good if the yolk and white was all contained in the membrane!
If that is the cause, then likely she would not need an antibiotic. I was afraid that "egg" has leaked from the membrane into the oviduct - this can cause infection.

If she's doing great, then I think I would hold off on the antibiotic and save it for another time.

I'm glad she's doing well. You did a very good job taking care of her.

Wow, great job getting that out! Go ahead and mix some TUMS, layer feed, and cottage cheese together. the cottage cheese is soft and doesn’t need to be chewed, I give this mix to my sick hens who don’t want to eat solid food. You also could just crumble layer feed. I’ve found that they won’t eat pellets. Just like how you would only want to eat soft foods like soups when you’re sick, your hen probably does to. If it’s soft and has This could be from a vitamin-D or phosphorus deficiency as well. However most likely it is calcium. To give your birds that extra boost of calcium, give crushed eggshells with the TUMS and oyster shells. While she’s gaining strength, give scrambled eggs to. If she poops a yellow or clear liquid that means that when the egg broke inside that she has not yet expelled all of its contents. To prevent EYP make sure she gets all that calcium and expels as much egg content as she can :hugs
