Hen with hard membrane sticking out of vent?

It seems like it may be a shell membrane that re hardened a bit. When I had her in the bath, it feels like a rough peice of plastic that is pliable to some extent. It does bend. I just fear that if I pull it out I am going to cause a lot of damage.
The big problem with this is it sounds like she's not able to poop, so it's blocking her intestines too. This is not good.
I do agree with and understand your fear of causing damage. Is she trying to push at all?

Also, how is she - is she exhausted, lethargic - any signs of distress?

You may need to slowly try to work it out of there. I would definitely keep the oil or something on it to keep it lubricated.

:hugs

I will keep working on it. I am using castor oil. I have a syringe that I squirted a bit right up along side the blockage. She seems to be making the odd noise when she pushes but other than that she is still approaching me at the cage and taking bites of food

Hopefully it will slide on out without any major problems. If she does prolapse, then keep any exposed tissue moist with your oil or ointment.
It's good that she's eating a little, but I would make sure she's drinking too.
Calcium can help with contractions and retaining the oviduct too - so I would get some extra calcium into her once a day for 3-5 days. Caltrate is fine to give or you can give her a TUMS.

Let us know how it goes.

Update * It pulled out with a little effort. It was a HUGE membrane from what would've been a giant egg. She seems ok for now.

Is there any inside isn it? I am dealign with th same issue, and would be worried that the egg may have broken inside your hen. You will want to give her I think 1/2 a TUMS for 3-5 days like @Wyorp Rock suggested. This seems to be working really well for my hen! You can also give her electrolytes and probiotics in her water, I use Save-A-Chick, and that helps to give them a boost. Calcium is most important. What is her poop like? Is she pooping white, watery fluids? That would mean she is passing any egg whites in her body, which is good. I hope this helps! Sorry about your hen! :hugs

Thanks, I think there is probably some more inside although when she pushed the previous egg out it had membrane and yolks on it all wrapped around the shell it was really mucky. I hope she will pass whatever may be left. As soon as I brought her into the house the other day I started her on calcium citrate tablets crushed right away while I monitored symptoms to figure out what was wrong. Hope everything goes well with you too! 🙏

My biggest concern was whether or not to pull it out or let her pass it on her own and I waited as long as I was possibly comfortable with before pulling it out. I may have saved her. Time will tell but I'm sure she has a better chance now. Pepper is my favorite most sweet girl in the entire flock 🙏

Good job on getting that out.

Was there yolk and albumen (egg whites) coming out separately from the wrapped up membrane?
Since it was really mucky and you had to introduce oil. If she were mine, I would give her a round of antibiotics to help with any infection.

Amoxicillin would be good to use, you can order it online. If you have any antibiotics on hand, let us know what you have.
