Hen with limp! What’s the cause? See photos please.

Has this chicken been vaccinated against Marek's? It may be just an artifact of the photo, but the eye appears to be discolored, indicating an ocular for of Marek's. The limping is also a symptom of Marek's. If Baby is under a year old, that's a third indication since Marek's often manifests at that age.

Compare her left eye with the right. If they are very different, you have a strong case for this being Marek's.

She’s about two and a half years old. We haven’t had her vaccinated, but if it were Marek’s, would we have already seen signs of it?

We feed them three times daily instead of having a hanging feeder because during the summer squirrels will help themselves and the cost adds up. And I feed them organic whole grain layer. Is it possible she’s been injured?? Even though I can’t find any swelling or obvious sign of injury? I did notice that one hen today kept pecking at her head. I separated them, but I also know that hens will instinctively pick on the weaker ones.

Here’s an up close photo of her legs, they both seem to have a yellow bruise like coloring on them.

Could something have frightened her into panicking and flying into something? The legs do appear they could be starting to bruise. There also appears to be slight swelling where the discoloration is.

If the yellow turns greenish by tomorrow, it's definitely bruising, and an injury. Warm Epson salt soaks can increase circulation and hasten healing. You can also give an 81 grain aspirin two times a day to help with pain. It may take a week or two to completely heal.

It’s possible she might have been frightened by our neighbors who are currently renovating their house. There’s constant noise from construction and people.
I will soak her feet in an epsom salt bath tonight!
I also cleaned out their coop and sprayed it down with a solution that kills any mites just in case.
I hope it’s just a sprain!! Fingers crossed

When mine have this,I give them Mobic 2x day,then in a week maybe once.Sometimes an antibiotic combined for a few days as well.My vet gives me 1.5 mg.2x day by dropper,Mobic.
Hips commonly bother hens.Jumping on high nest or roosts makes it worse,just playing sometimes.I usually put them in cage at night until healed as well.Has never exceeded 2 weeks.
Can happen young age too.Mine have always gotten better quickly,luckily.
Without treatment,or changes, it may not get better.
