I moved one of my hens from the coop into our sunroom because I noticed that she was having trouble with her foot, she was limping. She is one that likes to free range. I put her in a box to heal. When I brought her in I noticed that she has either lice or mites on her. So I treated her, the entire flock, and the coop with poultry dust.
My main question is I’m also raising baby chicks in the same sunroom. I have them in small stock tanks. They are not right near her. But across on the other side of the room. Is there a chance they will get the lies or mites? Or will it be ok, I’m not sure how easily the pests move around. Is it possible that I can also pass the mites from me to the chicks?
The chicks are about 6 weeks old. I want to make sure I get rid of mites before I move them out to join the flock. I also wasn’t sure how old chicks need to be before you can treat them for things like this?
Thanks for your help!
