Hen with mites!!

i have a hen who has mites. ive tried dusting her but it doesnt seem to be working. im wondering if im getting it on her enough to work. is there anything else i can do? is there anything like a flea dip for dogs that i could just dip my hen in to make sure i get them all??? the question may be stupid but i was just wondering

What are you dusting her with? Recommended is food grade DE but in a pinch, 5% malathion dust will kill them too. I also dusted down my roosts with DE and added some to the litter. Haven't had a problem since. Good luck.

I agree with lavaclaw.
But somone once told me that they did there chickens feet in motor oil and it kills off the mites...? Is this true or not?
And my rooster looks like he has had mites for a long time now and it doesnt seem to be spreading to any of the other birds, even when i check them i see nothing.. so could he possibly have something wrong with his legs?

the mites arent on here legs. i think the're all over her. shes pulling out her butt feathers

Dust her with Sevin dust or poultry dust. DE is a good preventative measure but if a chicken has mites you need to use a chemical. Also up her nutrition with vitamins and scrambled eggs. Mites can make them miserable and not want to eat. You also want to treat the coop. Pull the bedding away from the walls and apply Sevin to the floor and push bedding back. You might also want to dust perches and nest boxes. The nest box littler should be changed.

Dust your other chickens also. Do it again in 7 days in case mite eggs hatch.

I have poultry dust. It comes in a shaker can. I have my husband hold them and I lift their wings and rub while I am sprinkling the dust. Try to get it at the base of their feathers. I do the back of the neck and the breast and vent (no rubbing here). We do it outside with the wind blowing at our sides so the chicken, my husband and I have less of a chance of breathing it in.

I hope others post a better idea/way of doing this. I still have a lot to learn.
