Hey guys! I have an Arucana with a butt that looks like pasty butt in a chick. Should I worry? Should I catch her and clean her up? I have never had this issue before with a mature chicken. Please help.
Side note ... I have found several eggs over the past few weeks that were not done (no shells), could this be a issue with this hen with the pasty hind end?

Do you mean a picture of her hind end? I could try to get one of her ... give me a few šŸ˜‰

yes, catcher her,
You can do this 2 ways, in the kitchen sink ( warm water)

or with the garden hose(cold water). IMG_0901.JPG

hold her under your arm, with her hiney showing so you can see to wash her off.
you can wash just her backside.

If the poop is to hard and built up
dawn will help dissolve it. images (3).jpg

Is your white hen with pasty butt a Leghorn? My pasty hen is a Leghorn and her hind end looks exactly like hers. This morning I am going to try and soak her with some warm water to see if that helps. Great idea with the Dawn, very helpful😃

If she is still having an issue, maybe also,
Wash and bleach the water container and give fresh water daily
What layer feed are you using?
Do you have extra oyster shell calcium for her

Thank you, that is great advice.
They have a very clean environment and clean feeders and water daily. They do have oyster shell and I also add a bit of crushed egg shells Once in a while.
I was using the generic grain that the lady sent with her, but have just started them on Rolling Acres Layer feed from Peavey Mart.
She still looks much better than she did when she first arrived but I would really like to try and eradicate it. I see how difficult it is!

How old is she? is the feed you are using pellets?
If I remember right you dont have access to Scratch and Pec Pellets?
But, I do feel Organic Purina Layer Pellets is a good feed, it is balanced and a consistent nutrition, Pellets are a good thing, they are a consistent dose, are It may help to slowly transition her to it.
But, you also could compare its ingredients to what you are using,
and thats all I got hon'

Thank you so much.
I am not sure how old she is, she was dumped at the foot of my suppliers driveway. She lays 4-6 times a week so far, so I think she may be in her second laying season? I honestly dont know.

I am hoping that now she is in a clean new environment that it will get better. It is not as fiery red, thank goodness, poor girl, and some feathers are coming back so we are hoping.

i have checked for mites and nobody has them (I use a lot of DE in their run) but I did catch her in the act of pulling out her feathers. She seems a calm girl, they have tons of space, good food and a clean, large coop. The coop is for 16 chickens and I have 6, so lots of space for them. Their waterers and feeders are cleaned daily, their coop is large and clean - I got nothin’!
no more rescue chickens lol!
thank you for the advice, I will take it ā˜ŗļø
