Hello, I have a 6 year old bantam cochin hen that I noticed last week had kind of a bald face and her skin looked a bit dry. She didn't have any peck marks or wounds, no discharge from eyes, nose, or mouth. No mites or lice that I can see, everyone was treated about 6 weeks ago and I haven't seen anything since. Yesterday her face was looking swollen. It's the same on both sides. Still no discharge or anything. It has been getting in the negative temps here lately so I'm not sure if it's just from the cold? I brought her inside yesterday and she's eating and drinking and acting normal.

Hi,

Pretty hen!

Since she has no other symptoms, I think I'd go with it being scaly face mites, as they could be causing the swelling. They are microscopic, so you wouldn't see them. I would try putting vaseline or coconut oil on her face every other day for three times total. Then repeat that in 7-10 days.
