Well, its in Gods hands now. We decided to operate on her and removed almost 4 pounds of what looked like hard boiled yolk.

We also performed the hystirectomy(sp) She is still very alert and seems to be in a lot less pain. Her eyes have cleared up and call me a dreamer, but I think she even looks happy. So now we will keep her warm and fed and see what happens. Say a prayer for our new hen we will call Hope. Not gonna get much sleep tonight.

WOW! Dont see too many folks willing to do their own cutting, and even if she passes, you at least tried. I would be curious as to what exactly it was you removed from her. I performed a necropsy on the hen I lost, and all I recovered was a runny fluid, and I ended up with more questions than answers. Would you be so kind as to post pics of what you removed and perhaps a description of the internal structures of the hen that you removed? Do you notice any abnormalities? Any possible tumors?
I am a former Forensic Investigator, and soo to be 4H advisor, so I want to be able to explain to my kids what and why, when things go wrong. If you mods dont want it here, I would request it be emailed? to [email protected]

best wishes for you and the bird...do you know of anythng you can give for pain to her?.... i have heard aspirin..but probably cant use that with surgery(bleeding..etc..)....well praying for ya!..

Dont the experts usually suggest making sure she has plenty of protein available? Offer her some scrambled egg and maybe some yogurt...water with electrolytes to make sure she doesnt go into shock on you. I would forego the asprin due to the bleeding issue, and I am not really sure what to give a chicken for pain, I keep a topical lidocaine around, which probably isnt the best choice, but in a pinch its better than nothing. Keep her warm and watch for any bleeding, due to the small size of these critters, any blood loss can be significant, and they decompensate in a big hurry. Good luck and best wishes.
