Actually she hardly moved during surgery until the stitching. I think it was such a relief for her to have it removed. Now we are tending to some of the other girls that aren't nearly as bad as her. Had to remove foreign object from ones foot yada yada yada. Busy we are today. But at least I know they are in a much better place and will be much happier and on the proper food and water and shelter and of course much loving. And the sweeties have already given me 2 eggs how about that!

Well upon closer inspection they have mites, poor things, I have treated them and the ones in contact with them the pen and coop with seven dust. Removed something lodged in one of their feet and bandaged it up. One doesn't look well and we have her in isolation right now. So far my day has been very busy.

bless you for taking these birds in. I just love my chickens and am glad to see you caring for these girls so well.

Thanks it is becoming very time consuming and a lot of unexpected things but I know they are happy and taken care of finally. Also how long after treating them can I intergrate my flocks?

This is fascinating because two of the birds I got from someone who was moving (who didn't seem to take much care of their birds) have exactly the same thing. A huge soft mass below the vent. It is lumpy feeling. I wasn't sure what to do. It also feels warm to the touch on the outside. I am very curious to see how yours does because maybe I will do the same op. I will have to do it myself because Kelly would pass out but he is not good with medical stuff. Maybe he could hold her and not look. Either that or maybe I should euthanize them. I just don't know what it is and what to do. The goat vet is coming on Thursday and I thought I might ask him to take a look...

Did you say their legs were dry? Could it be scaly leg mites? Do a search on it and see what you think. I think vaseline on the legs everyday maybe a few times a day for a couple weeks will take care of that.

You did a good job with the chicken, you saved her. Do you think she will lay anymore? Sounds like she really never laid right.
